President Trump has indirectly and directly threatened to fire Special Counsel Robert Mueller, who is investigating Russian meddling in the 2016 election.

If he’s fired, it was land a major blow to the investigation. Mitch McConnell says he wants Mueller to be allowed to continue his investigation but he refuses to bring legislation to protect Mueller to a vote.
