Ruppersberger Receives Endorsement of Top Environmental Group

(Washington, DC) – Congressman C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger (D-MD) is honored to receive the endorsement of the Sierra Club, a top environmental advocacy group representing 1.4 million members nationwide. Congressman Ruppersberger has a strong record of fighting to defend the Chesapeake Bay, conserving our natural resources and promoting a clean energy future.

“In Maryland, our natural resources are our livelihood,” Congressman Ruppersberger said.  “We also have a moral responsibility to preserve America’s treasures for our children and their children.”

"We are very pleased to announce that the Sierra Club officially endorses Representative Dutch Ruppersberger for re‑election," said David Hauck, Maryland Sierra Club political chair. "We are confident he will continue his good work to protect Maryland’s and our country’s environment, both for our families and for our future. We are deeply grateful to Representative Ruppersberger for his work to clean up the Chesapeake Bay and we applaud his strong support of legislation to limit greenhouse gas emissions and create clean energy jobs.”

Congressman Ruppersberger has secured millions of federal dollars to help restore the Chesapeake Bay, which supports $1 trillion to the economies of its 6-state watershed. He also supports landmark legislation requiring states to draft plans to meet strict Bay pollution caps and authorizing new funding to help farmers control run-off.

Congressman Ruppersberger is also a vocal advocate of mass transit, clean air and water initiatives and efforts to protect endangered species. He strongly believes we must move the country beyond dirty fossil fuels. As Ranking Member of House Intelligence Committee, Congressman Ruppersberger believes our dependence on hostile foreign countries for oil is the top reason for supporting clean energy technology. He believes all options – including ethanol, wind, solar power and nuclear energy – should be on the table to reduce pollution and create jobs.

Congressman Ruppersberger is seeking his sixth term in office representing Maryland's 2nd District which includes neighborhoods in Baltimore City as well as Baltimore, Anne Arundel, Harford and Howard Counties. In addition to serving as the Ranking Member on the House Intelligence Committee, Congressman Ruppersberger sits on the Armed Services Committee.
